Katahdin sheep are a hardy, low-maintenance sheep raised solely for meat. They have a coat which seasonally sheds so does not require shearing. Katahdins do not require tail docking or "crotching" for hygenic reasons as "wool" breeds do. They are docile and easy to handle, have excellent mothering instinct with an abundant milk supply for their usual multiple birthing. They are very adaptable to a variety of climates and possess a high degree of resistance to parasites. Katahdins also come in a variety of colours and patterns.
They are known for their lean, mild-tasting flavour with the absence of "tallowing". The Katahdin retains its fine quality and taste well beyond the lamb stage, and can be enjoyed either hot or cold.
We purchased our first Katahdins from Mish Katahdins of Glenavon SK. We thank Jeff and Janette Mish for selling us our breeding stock. Three ewe lambs and a ram arrived at ImagineNationAcres in September 2008.
