Sorry, we have nothing available at the moment. However, we will be looking for a good home... one without other dogs, for a two-year old black female named Mynah, once her maternal duties are complete.
Although it seems that most people want to start with a young puppy, sometimes the better choice is an older puppy or adult dog. If you are away from home for extended periods of time, if you are a busy family with young children, or if you can't dedicate the time to properly socialize, house train, and bond with a young puppy, then perhaps an older dog would be a better choice.
Sometimes a breeder will hold back a promising puppy. However, in spite of all the hopes and wishes, sometimes that puppy just doesn't quite develop into what was hoped for. Perhaps he went oversize, a disqualification in the show ring, but a non-issue for a pet home. Perhaps her fuzzy puppy coat didn't develop the correct adult texture... again a non-issue in a pet puppy that will be clippered instead of stripped. Perhaps a dog is taken out of a breeding program because of difficulties, and had to be spayed or neutered. They would also have a lot to offer a family. There could be many reasons why a breeder may have an older puppy or adult for sale, none of which would be detrimental to its ability to be a terrific companion for somebody.
An older puppy comes with many advantages... he will already be crate trained and perhaps even housetrained. He has been socialized with other dogs and people, walks on a lead, and has some basic manners. He is accustomed to being groomed and handled... a big part of life for a Miniature Schnauzer. You may feel you're missing out on all the fun, but the truth is an older puppy or adult, from a reputable breeder, is often a better choice. You also know what you're getting with respect to colour, size and temperament.
